Businesses in Support of Britain’s Manufacturing Sector

Buying British

The annual Made in Britain survey revealed that eight in 10 businesses will now pay more for British made products post-pandemic.

The survey conducted through One Poll aimed to discover how loyal businesses are to the British economy by finding out if they are keeping their buying habits closer to home.

According to the results of 1,000 UK businesses, three-quarters of them are currently more likely to buy within Britain in aid of the economy.

Now, many in procurement positions have said that they will be happy to pay the premium price for British goods, with 64% saying they will pay whatever it costs.

They are also said, to have a much bigger focus on supporting the environment, with many businesses realising the incredible impact they have over consumers.

The environment is increasingly becoming one of the major concerns with 77% of them believing buying British would have a big impact on climate change and 16% who have prioritised it above cost and quality, something which was only 5% the year before.

John Pearce, CEO, Made in Britain said, “Encouragingly our research shows that the business community is backing British manufacturing to the hilt with support for the UK economy significantly impacting purchasing decisions.

“Environmental concerns have also risen further up the corporate agenda as climate change, and waste reduction becomes ever more critical.

“We are also extremely proud to see a coming together of British business in the face of adversity with almost a third (30 per cent) of companies responding to the government’s calls to action to aid with the crisis.

“Indeed, a number of our own members have pivoted or diversified product lines to support coronavirus efforts.

“It is more important than ever that manufacturers maximise the strong appetite for products made on British soil by making it as easy as possible for both consumers and businesses to buy British."

But, according to Made in Britain, certain constraints are holding UK businesses back.

In particular, many find that it is unclear whether a product was made in Britain.

Not only can they not tell if it is British, but those that are from British brands are unsure whether the products they are supplying, are still sourced overseas, and 30% said they would not know where to look to buy them.

But what is good to know is it is not just UK business who are on a mission to support our manufacturing sector.

According to Made in Britain, 90% of consumers also believe it is important to buy British made products with nearly 70% making a conscious effort.

And what makes these purchasing decisions even easier for both consumers and businesses is the official Made in Britain stamp which provides the certification if a product was actually made on British soil.
