Top Job Interview Questions to Ask your Candidates

While we understand no two job interviews will have the same questions or even the same format, some questions have been and continue to be popular among employers when screening potential candidates.

By preparing well-thought-out and intuitive questions, you can give yourself the edge over other recruiters and competitor job boards.

In this blog, we'll be focusing on cultural-fit interview questions, what they are and providing examples you can incorporate in your next interview process.

What are Cultural Fit interview questions?

Cultural fit interview questions are often used to single out candidates whose values, beliefs and behaviour fit in with your company's culture. Recruiters will usually ask a set of cultural fit interview questions purposely designed to see if their potential candidates are a good fit for their company.

It is believed that a candidate who values the same things and believes in your company's vision and mission is more likely to achieve goals and be more productive.

Here are some of the best practice examples of cultural interview questions:

  • Describe the type of work environment in which you can give your best and be most productive.
  • Did you become a really good friend with any of your colleagues at your previous (or current) workplace? What do you think about having close relationships with your coworkers? Is this good or bad practice?
  • Describe a situation where your colleagues disagreed with your ideas. What did you do?
  • Do you prefer working alone or as part of a team? Please explain your answer.
  • What is your opinion about taking work home with you? Do you usually take your work home? Is it good practice in your opinion?
  • Name three things that you like the most about our company.
  • Describe a challenging situation you have faced recently at work, and how you tackled it.
  • What are you passionate about?
  • What does your ideal workday look like?
  • What are, in your opinion, the key ingredients in maintaining successful business relationships?
  • Tell me about the most stressful situation you faced at work. What happened? How did you handle it?

To give yourself a competitive advantage over other employers and increase your chances of finding success, its crucial cultural fit questions are part of your hiring process. Try to make sure you have your questions planned out beforehand, asking them how they like to operate, as well as their expectations of the company and most importantly do their answers line up with your company's values and beliefs. If so, perfect but if not maybe try checking out other candidates in the same talent pool.

Finally, if you've found your perfect candidate don't be scared to follow them up with an email letting them know your thoughts or with any additional questions you may not have thought about in the interview process.
